The Indonesian forestry delegation at COP30 UNFCCC held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources of Guyana, Vickram Bharrat, accompanied by Advisor to the President of Guyana, Kevin Hogan, to discuss Indonesia’s potential membership in the Forest Climate Leaders’ Partnership (FCLP). The meeting continued the dialogue initiated during previous FCLP sessions.

The Indonesian delegation was led by Prof. Haruni Krisnawati, Senior Advisor to the Minister of Forestry for Climate Change, supported by Krisdianto, Head of Public Relations and International Cooperation Bureau, and Julmansyah, Director of Tenurial Conflict Resolution and Indigenous Forests.

Minister Bharrat outlined Guyana’s role as co-chair of FCLP and expressed strong interest in Indonesia joining the coalition. He emphasized that Indonesia’s longstanding experience in tropical forest governance and its influential role in global climate policy would provide significant added value to FCLP’s collective leadership.

“FCLP currently consists of 36 member countries—both developed and developing—committed to protecting forests and addressing global deforestation. Indonesia’s proven forest management practices make it a natural leader and potential role model for other members,” Minister Bharrat stated.

Responding to the proposal, Krisdianto conveyed Indonesia’s appreciation and confirmed that the request would be formally relayed to the Minister of Forestry.

He highlighted that Indonesia had participated as an observer during COP27 in Egypt and had yet to take a final decision on membership.

Minister Bharrat further explained that FCLP has refined its mission to “halt and reverse forest loss”, adopting a more inclusive approach that accommodates diverse national forest management strategies.

A follow-up technical discussion between FCLP and the Ministry of Forestry will be held to ensure alignment with Indonesia’s national policy framework.

“The biannual FCLP meeting will be held in Guyana in May 2026, and we hope Indonesia will participate as a full member,” added Minister Bharrat.

At the conclusion of the meeting, Indonesia encouraged FCLP to submit an official letter explaining the partnership’s transformed mandate and extending a formal invitation to join.

Guyana also expressed interest in deepening bilateral collaboration and learning from Indonesia’s sustainable forest management expertise.

Both parties agreed that FCLP would send a formal membership proposal and a separate invitation for follow-up technical missions and knowledge-sharing activities between the two countries.
