The Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK) publishes the 2024 edition of The State of Indonesia’s Forest (SOIFO) book.

Through SOIFO 2024, Indonesia updates the latest data and information on the condition of its forests. This year’s theme, as stated by Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya, is “Towards Sustainability of Forest Ecosystems in Indonesia.”

“This theme carries a profound meaning and encompasses all the ongoing efforts of KLHK to conserve Indonesia’s forest ecosystems. These efforts range from seedling, planting, to sustainable and continuous utilization,” said Minister Siti during the celebration of the successful compilation of the book in Jakarta on Thursday, July 18, 2024.

The book not only provides the latest data and information on the condition of Indonesia’s forests but also offers in-depth analysis of the challenges and opportunities in future forest management.

The publication also outlines innovations by KLHK in forest management, such as real-time hotspot reporting, forest monitoring (SIMONTANA), and simplification of permits, among others.

“All of this aims to achieve sustainable forest areas. We also encourage the active involvement of the younger generation in various youth-oriented forest management activities,” added Minister Siti.

The book ‘The State of Indonesia’s Forest 2024: Towards Sustainability of Forest Ecosystems in Indonesia’ launched today is the result of the hard work of various parties. Minister Siti expressed her appreciation to all contributors involved in the compilation of the book.

Rajendra Aryal, Head Representative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) in Indonesia, praised SOIFO as a unique forestry publication since its first edition in 2018, which has been consistently updated in 2020, 2022, and now in 2024.

The FAO remains committed to continued collaboration with Indonesia, particularly with KLHK, in the forestry and food sectors as part of the food system, providing expert support.

“Indonesia is always at the forefront and on track in many aspects, including forestry and food,” said Rajendra.

The event was also attended by Senior Advisor to the Minister of Environment and Forestry Efransyah and
Chairman of the Association of Indonesian Forest Concessionaires Professor Indroyono Soesilo. ***
