Stakeholders in the forestry industry are ready to implement the operational plan for Indonesia’s Forestry and Other Land Use (FOLU) NET SINK 2030 launched by the Minister of Environment and Forestry Siti Nurbaya on March 2022.
The operational plan is an effort to control climate change to achieve Indonesia’s Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC), based on basic principles which mainly include sustainable forest management, environmental governance and carbon governance.
APP Sinar Mas affirmed its commitment to support the work targets of the 2030 FOLU NET SINK operational plan through reducing deforestation and forest degradation, regulating plantation forest development, sustainable forest management, social forestry, forest rehabilitation, peat restoration governance, peat water management improvements, repair and conservation of mangroves as well as conservation of biodiversity and its ecosystem.
“We have an obligation to support various efforts to achieve Indonesia’s FOLU NET SINK 2030 target,” APP Sinar Mas Chief Sustainability Officer, Elim Sritaba, said in Jakarta, 28 April 2022.
The FOLU NET SINK 2030 operational plan underlined that the implementation of the operational legal documents is carried out jointly based on collaboration by involving stakeholders, including the business world.
“APP Sinar Mas, as part of the Indonesian business world, continues to work with reference to Indonesia’s FOLU NET SINK 2030 operational plan so that we can play a real and sustainable role,” said Elim.
“We are also committed to implementing sustainable business practices so that the targets set by the Government of Indonesia can be achieved through joint and collaborative efforts,” added Elim.
Indonesia FOLU Net Sink is a scenario where the absorption of greenhouse gases (GHG) is targeted to be balanced or higher than emissions in the forest and other land use (FOLU) sector in 2030.
The achievement of Indonesia’s Net Sink FOLU will contribute up to 60% of the Net Zero Emission target by 2060 as part of Indonesia’s contribution to preventing catastrophic climate change.
The involvement of all relevant stakeholders, including the private sector, in achieving Indonesia Net Sink FOLU was highlighted by the Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya, during the Consolidation Workshop on Indonesia’s FOLU Net Sink 2030 on April 4, 2022.
“I specifically want to relay this message and I strongly remind you that there will not be any steps from any unit that is not coordinated with the FoLU Net Sink work system,” said Minister Siti.
Minister Siti has published the Indonesian Operational Plan Document for FOLU Net Sink 2030 through the Decree of the Minister of Environment and Forestry No.168 of 2022.
She asked that the Operational Plan be obeyed with discipline without exception by every member of the central government, regional governments, NGOs, the private sector and related parties. ***
